It’s time to start getting excited! The 2nd Annual Tour de Pier fundraiser event for cancer research is just 26 days away, and we hope to see you there. This year we’re especially proud we can participate in the efforts of cancer research as the official bike sponsors of the Second Annual Tour de Pier 2014.
We’re proud to support Tour de Pier 2014 by providing the bikes that participants will use to fundraise, which this year is a goal of $500,000 dollars. Currently, the amount donated stands more than halfway that goal at $288,323 - with 26 days to go.
The fundraiser will donate to three cancer related charities, specifically:
- The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research
- Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach.
The Tour de Pier is scheduled to occur Sunday, May 18, 2014 on the Manhattan Beach Pier, where riders will mount 250 Spinners® and cycle in unison on the beach for four hours.
Don’t worry though, no one is required to ride the entire duration if they don’t want to - each hour is one session lasting 50 minutes long, with a 10-minute-long transition period.
Riders raise money for the fundraiser by registering on the Tour du Pier website and agreeing to donate $500 dollars to earn their seat for the event. It doesn’t come from their own pockets, but from pledges that sponsor you to participate. Last year in its inaugural year, Tour de Pier raised $350,000 dollars.
The event itself is not a competition, though one can choose to make a team, and two teams will be selected for being the most creative and inspirational for prizes.
Celebrity athletes will be participating in the fundraising efforts by riding for charity, and we will be there to help anyone at the event – look for our booth if you start to get hot! We’re going to be providing water and towels and stickers you can keep as a momento of the second successful year this fundraiser uses unity to battle cancer.
